The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of ICT and the Southwest, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, has begun a regional operational and stakeholder engagement tour with a series of strategic visits in Ibadan, Oyo State, aimed at strengthening security coordination and enhancing policing effectiveness across the Southwest.
Fayoade met separately with Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where he discussed expanded collaboration between security agencies, government structures, and traditional institutions in addressing security challenges in the region.
He commended the state government’s continued support for security agencies and stressed the need for stronger intelligence sharing mechanisms, deeper community engagement, and improved inter-agency cooperation to sustain stability in the Southwest.
At the Olubadan’s palace, the DIG acknowledged the relevance of traditional institutions in grassroots intelligence and conflict mediation, describing them as essential partners in maintaining public order.
As part of the visit, he also addressed officers and stakeholders at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, where he emphasised discipline, professionalism, and intelligence-led policing as central to ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force.
Fayoade assured that the Force was actively deploying advanced technological tools and intelligence capabilities in efforts to rescue pupils and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, noting that operations were ongoing.
He said the priority of the Police remained the safe and unharmed recovery of the victims, adding that significant progress was being made.
The DIG explained that the Inspector-General of Police had directed senior officers across the country to embark on field assessments and stakeholder engagements to strengthen operational effectiveness and public confidence in policing.
Reiterating the importance of modern policing tools, he said technology and data-driven intelligence were now central to crime prevention and response strategies.
He also urged officers to maintain high standards of professionalism, accountability, and responsiveness, warning that public trust could only be sustained through integrity and efficient service delivery.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Abimbola, welcomed the DIG’s visit, describing it as timely and beneficial to ongoing efforts to enhance operational capacity and security coordination in the state.
The Southwest engagement tour will continue across the remaining states in the region, focusing on operational reviews, stakeholder consultations, and strengthening collaboration among security institutions.
