Troops Rescue 360 Hostages In Major Borno Mountains Operation

A major counter-insurgency breakthrough has emerged in Borno State after troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued about 360 women and children from a remote insurgent hideout in the Mandara Mountains, underscoring a growing reliance on intelligence-driven operations in the North-East conflict.

The raid, which targeted a concealed enclave used by armed groups in southern Borno, followed weeks of coordinated surveillance, human intelligence inputs, and signal tracking. Military officials say the success reflects a deeper shift in strategy—moving from reactive engagements to precision-based disruption of terrorist strongholds.

According to security sources, Special Forces units executed a multi-pronged night assault designed to overwhelm the camp, sever escape routes, and prevent reinforcements. The approach reportedly achieved surprise, forcing insurgents to abandon positions and scatter into surrounding terrain while captives were secured.

Beyond the immediate rescue, analysts view the operation as part of a broader effort to dismantle the logistical and human networks sustaining insurgent activity in difficult mountain corridors that have long served as refuge zones.

All rescued victims were evacuated for urgent medical attention and humanitarian support after enduring prolonged captivity under harsh conditions. Authorities confirmed that the survivors are undergoing screening and stabilization in secured facilities.

Tragically, the mission also exposed the severe humanitarian toll of prolonged abductions, with reports confirming that some infants died due to exhaustion and health complications during captivity, highlighting the fragility of conditions faced by hostages before rescue.

Military authorities have described the operation as evidence of improving coordination between intelligence units and frontline troops, while stressing that clearance missions will continue to prevent regrouping by remaining fighters.

Community representatives in the region have welcomed the rescue but are calling for sustained post-operation support—particularly trauma care, reintegration services, and long-term rehabilitation for survivors as they attempt to rebuild their lives after prolonged captivity.
