The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that Nigerian Navy officer Lt. A.M. Yerima survived an assassination attempt in Abuja, describing the viral narrative as false and unsubstantiated.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said on Sunday night that no incident resembling an attack on the officer was ever reported or recorded within the territory.
“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima. The command categorically states that no such incident occurred anywhere within the FCT. The public should disregard this false information,” Adeh stated.
She urged residents to avoid spreading unverified claims and to report suspicious activity directly to the nearest police division.
The rebuttal follows widespread online claims that Lt. Yerima—who recently clashed publicly with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at a military-occupied property in Gaduwa—was trailed on Sunday evening by unidentified men in two unmarked Hilux vans.
Earlier reports, citing military sources, claimed the vans followed him from NIPCO Filling Station along Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way, forcing him into what was described as a “strategic maneuver” to evade his pursuers. Sources said the matter had been escalated to relevant authorities but declined further details to avoid compromising security processes.
A video of Yerima’s heated confrontation with Wike had gone viral days before, fueling speculation and online commentary around the alleged attack.
