The Delta State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has drawn a firm line in the sand, declaring that veteran politician Chief Great Ogboru is neither welcome in the party nor recognised as part of its political future.
In a bold statement that has sent shockwaves through the state’s political circles, party stakeholders said Ogboru’s recent attempt to align with the ADC was “misplaced, suspicious, and completely out of tune with the aspirations of Delta’s grassroots members.”
The stakeholders accuse Ogboru of trying to slip into the ADC after “losing political soil under his feet” in Delta’s evolving landscape, especially following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent consolidation of support from senior APC figures.
They argue that Ogboru has a track record of leveraging multiple gubernatorial runs not for victory but to negotiate political concessions.
“Ogboru has never been part of ADC Delta. He is not wanted, and he will not be,” one senior party leader said.
The crisis stems from the upcoming unveiling of ADC structures in Delta State. Insiders say Ogboru influenced the choice of date but later distanced himself financially, even after contributing ₦17.5 million to earlier party activities.
With his withdrawal, party members tapped into their own resources. Small and large donations began flowing—from market women, young professionals, artisans, and business owners.
For many, this moment has become symbolic.
ADC members say their resolve mirrors the now-famous moment when a young naval officer stood up to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during a demolition standoff, declaring:
“I am not a fool. I have integrity.”
That incident, which halted the bulldozers, has come to represent a growing national courage to question political authority.
Stakeholders say the same spirit is rising within the ADC in Delta, ordinary members asserting their place in the political process.
“This is the season when Nigerians are learning to say ‘no’ to imposition and political intimidation,” a party youth leader said.
Sources within the ADC hint at quiet discomfort in some APC quarters. The fear, they say, is that a strengthened ADC, fuelled purely by grassroots energy — could complicate the ruling party’s 2027 calculations in Delta State.
“Some external actors would prefer that this unveiling does not happen,” a senior ADC strategist said.
“A vibrant ADC disrupts certain political narratives.”
Delta ADC leaders tell the party’s national leadership that forcing Ogboru into the state chapter or delaying the unveiling could ignite a crisis with consequences beyond Delta.
“Vox populi, vox dei — the voice of the people is the voice of God.
The people are the future of ADC, not political baggage.”
They insist the November 15 unveiling will go ahead as planned — and without Ogboru.
