It was an evening of gratitude, laughter, and heartfelt appreciation as staff of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) gathered to honour their Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Michael Ango, in recognition of what they described as his visionary and reform-driven leadership.
The event, aptly themed “A Night with Ango,” was organised by the staff to celebrate a leader they say has redefined public service through transparency, institutional reforms, and a renewed focus on staff welfare.
Speakers at the event described Mr. Ango as a humble, forward-thinking administrator who has revitalised the Service and inspired a culture of accountability and excellence.
In his response, Mr. Ango expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition, pledging to sustain reforms that place staff welfare and professional development at the centre of the Service’s operations.
“I am deeply honoured by this gesture,” he said. “When I resumed office, I made a promise that staff welfare, particularly salary improvements and career progression, would remain a top priority. With your continued support, we will achieve these goals.”
The Acting Executive Chairman outlined several ongoing reforms within FCT-IRS, including plans to introduce a fully automated, merit-based promotion examination system, improve working conditions across tax offices, and procure staff buses to ease transportation challenges.
He also emphasised the importance of institutional legacy over individual achievement.
“Leaders will come and go, employees will come and go, but the organisation will remain. What we build today should stand the test of time so that future generations can find pride in working here,” he noted.
Staff members took turns to commend Mr. Ango’s leadership style, describing him as accessible, empathetic, and committed to fairness. The night was filled with goodwill messages, tributes, and shared optimism for the Service’s future.
“This is more than a celebration—it is a testament to how far we’ve come under a leader who listens and leads with vision,” one staff member remarked.
As the curtains drew on “A Night with Ango,” the mood was unanimous: under Michael Ango’s watch, the FCT-IRS is not just reforming its systems—it is rebuilding trust, morale, and a shared sense of purpose.
