Lokoja, Kogi State — The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has officially assumed duty, pledging to prioritize community policing and strengthen inter-agency collaboration to safeguard lives and property across the state.

Speaking at his maiden press briefing on Wednesday, CP Kankarofi said the initiative aligns with the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Community Policing Policy, aimed at ensuring security strategies reflect the actual needs of local communities.

“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches. We will work closely with the citizens and communities of Kogi State so that our policing priorities respond to their needs and expectations,” he said.

CP Kankarofi emphasized that his administration would fully leverage synergy with sister agencies and stakeholders to elevate policing standards.

“Our mandate is the protection of life and property and the maintenance of law and order. Anyone, no matter how highly placed, who threatens communal peace will face a police force ever ready to act,” he warned.

He vowed zero tolerance for terrorism, banditry, and criminal activities, and called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious behavior promptly.

“We are here to work for the people. We are their police. Our goal is for everyone to sleep with their eyes closed,” CP Kankarofi said.

Promoted recently from Deputy Commissioner to Commissioner, Kankarofi described his appointment as a historic milestone in his career. He expressed gratitude to the IGP and the government and people of Kogi State for the opportunity to serve.

“With the assurance of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s support, we are confident in delivering our mandate and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all,” he added.

The Commissioner also highlighted Kogi’s economic significance, promising a peaceful environment for businesses and improved road safety during the upcoming ember months.

CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, hails from Kano Municipal LGA, Kano State, and is the 40th Commissioner of Police in Kogi State Command. He succeeds CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, who has been redeployed to the FCT Command.
