The Igala nation is set for a landmark moment as the UKOMU Igala Organisation, one of its foremost socio-cultural bodies, prepares to inaugurate a new National Executive Council (NEC) on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The high-profile ceremony, billed for the NBA House in Abuja’s Central Business District, will kick off at 10 a.m. and is expected to draw an impressive array of dignitaries — from traditional rulers and political heavyweights to professionals, community leaders and members of the Igala diaspora.
UKOMU described the event as more than just a change of leadership, but a defining step towards strengthening purposeful leadership within the Igala nation. The incoming NEC, it said, carries the mandate to champion causes dear to the people: cultural preservation, youth empowerment, grassroots development, and greater socio-economic participation in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
The Board of Trustees stressed that the leadership transition would be anchored on inclusiveness, accountability and service to the people. “This is a rallying point for unity and cultural revival,” an inauguration committee member noted, adding that the new NEC is expected to set a clear agenda for the future of the Igala nation.
Observers say the inauguration could have far-reaching implications, positioning the Igala voice more strongly in national conversations ahead of Nigeria’s shifting political landscape. With Kogi State’s diversity and strategic relevance, the Igala community’s unity is seen as vital to advancing not just their heritage, but also their place in the Nigerian federation.
UKOMU has therefore urged all sons and daughters of Igala land, alongside friends and allies of the community, to attend the Abuja event — describing it as a landmark gathering that will mark a new dawn for the Igala people at home and abroad.
