The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their record-breaking fifth consecutive Afrobasket championship victory.

Musawa, who watched the thrilling final live at the Palais de Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, alongside the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and Minister of State for Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, commended the team for their dominant performance in the 78–64 win over Mali on Sunday.
Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Dr. Nneka Ikem Anibeze in a statement on Monday quoted the Minister thus,
“This is more than just a victory—it’s a national moment of pride,” Musawa said. “The D’Tigress have once again demonstrated what is possible when passion meets purpose. Their hard work, discipline, and unity are truly inspirational.”

She noted that the team’s feat not only cements Nigeria’s place in basketball history but also projects the strength of Nigerian women on the continental and global stage.

“Their success will light a fire in the hearts of young girls across the country,” the Minister added. “This is the power of sports—it unites, uplifts, and tells a story of excellence that transcends borders.”

Musawa emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the growth of sports and talent development across all sectors, especially as it intersects with the creative economy.

“I am thrilled to see the D’Tigress bring home the Afrobasket trophy for the fifth time in a row! Their victory is a testament to the power of determination, teamwork, and Nigerian excellence.
“I congratulate each member of the team, their coaches, and everyone who has supported them on this incredible journey. This achievement will inspire a new generation of athletes, and the government looks forward to celebrating their return.”

The team will be formally received and honored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in recognition of their historic achievement.
