APC Refutes N1.8bn Luxury Car Allegation, Says Gov Namadi Focused on Development

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Umar Namadi spent ₦1.8 billion on luxury cars for himself, describing the story as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a statement signed by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Bashir Kundu, and made available to National Update in Dutse, the party said Governor Namadi remains committed to development and has not purchased any new luxury vehicles for personal use.

“Governor Namadi is not buying luxury cars. He is focused on transforming Jigawa State through massive development projects,” the statement read. “The report is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image and distract from the ongoing infrastructural achievements across the state.”

Kundu accused the online platform, Sahara Reporters, of spreading misinformation, claiming the vehicles seen at the Government House were wrongly assumed to be new additions to the governor’s convoy.

“The claim that 12 SUVs were purchased is false. The vehicles parked at the Government House belong to visitors, not the state. The governor continues to use vehicles inherited from his predecessor,” he clarified.

On the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the APC said the reported ₦6.9 billion figure was incorrect, stating that the state actually generated over ₦23.8 billion between January and June 2025.

According to the APC, Governor Namadi’s administration, despite inheriting ₦82 billion in liabilities, has paid ₦50 billion and has prioritized infrastructure, education, and rural connectivity over personal luxury.

In just two years, the statement noted, the administration completed all 26 road projects inherited from the previous government and initiated 48 new road projects covering 976 kilometers. Notably, the Jigawa–Sundimina–Birnin Kudu road, awarded at ₦11.5 billion, was completed in seven months—five months ahead of schedule.

Ongoing projects include: 47km Sara–Gantsa Road (₦11 billion)15 feeder roads (70–80% complete),
Township roads in Bulangu and Gandun Sarki and Capital roads in Dutse (60–70% complete).

Kundu concluded by emphasizing that Governor Namadi’s track record reflects integrity and a deep commitment to public service.

“His politics has always been about matching words with action. He does not prioritize luxury but the well-being of the people of Jigawa.”
