A major breakthrough in the fight against cult-related crime and infrastructure vandalism was recorded on Sunday, July 20, as operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a 40-year-old man, Pius Pius, in Abak Local Government Area.
The suspect, believed to be a notorious member of the Iceland Confraternity, was apprehended at about 6:55 PM at No. 80 School Road, Oku Abak, following credible intelligence gathered by law enforcement agents.
According to police sources, Pius had been on the radar for his alleged role in a string of vandalism cases targeting public electricity installations, including feeder transformers and electric cables, across Abak and surrounding areas.
What officers found during the arrest was chilling. A search of the suspect’s room uncovered disturbing items including:
A human skull
A transformer step-down insulator
A circuit breaker
An electric meter
Several fuses
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to belonging to the Iceland cult group, known for its involvement in violent crimes and sabotage of public infrastructure.
“This arrest sends a strong message that the police will not tolerate the destruction of critical infrastructure or cult-linked violence,” said DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer for the Akwa Ibom State Command. “We are intensifying efforts to dismantle such networks and ensure peace and safety in our communities.”
The police have launched a full investigation into the matter, with further updates expected in the coming days.
