The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has officially unveiled a Veterans Committee aimed at bridging generations of journalists through mentorship, collaboration, and institutional memory.
The committee will be chaired by Comrade Mati Ali, a distinguished journalist and media strategist with nearly 40 years of experience.
Comrade Ali currently serves as the Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence.
He is also the former Managing Director of Radio Jigawa and has served the NUJ in various capacities, including as Chairman of the Jigawa State Council and a National Trustee.
In a statement issued by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Aisha Ahmed, Muhammad Hussaini Kwalam is Secretary and the following members have been named to the new committee: Habibu Nuhu Kila, Fahad Muhammad and Salmanu Adamu Rishi as members

Comrade Aisha noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to tap into the experience and wisdom of veteran journalists to strengthen the Union’s impact.
“This committee will provide advisory support, mentorship, and ensure that our veterans are meaningfully engaged and recognized,” she said.
Among its key responsibilities, the committee will develop platforms for mentorship, facilitate dialogue between generations of journalists, and propose ways to honor the enduring contributions of retired media professionals.
The formation of the Veterans Committee marks a significant step by NUJ Jigawa towards fostering unity, learning, and continuity in the journalism profession.
