***A Call for Unity and Truth, asEdo, Kano Stand Together Over Tragedy
In a show of rare solidarity and urgency, the Federal Government and Edo State have launched a joint fact-finding committee to uncover the truth behind the tragic killing of hunters in Uromi, Edo State — an incident that has shaken the nation and claimed the lives of sixteen individuals from Kano State.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, made the disclosure during a solemn meeting with a high-powered delegation from Kano State, led by its Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the Government House in Benin City.
His Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua quoted him to have explained further,
“This heartbreaking event has opened our eyes to urgent national issues. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply troubled and has instructed us to get to the root of this tragedy,” Governor Okpebholo said.
“We are forming a joint committee with the Federal Government to ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done.”
The Governor emphasized that this act of violence will not divide the people of Edo and Kano, who have long shared economic and cultural ties.
“We are peace-loving people. This committee is not just about uncovering the truth—it’s about healing and rebuilding trust.”
Deputy Governor Gwarzo echoed similar sentiment, thanking Governor Okpebholo for his swift response and visit to Kano in the aftermath of the attack. “We have come with a report detailing the victims and survivors.
Sixteen souls from five Kano LGAs were lost, but we trust the process you’ve begun and believe justice will prevail.”
The two leaders later visited Uromi to meet directly with the Hausa community, reaffirming their commitment to peace, transparency, and unity.
As the investigation begins, the country watches closely, hopeful that this moment of grief can also become a turning point for truth and reconciliation.
