“We Are The Only Alternative!”—SDP Sets Sights on 2027, Rejects Merger Speculations

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has boldly declared itself as the genuine alternative for Nigeria’s path to progress, positioning itself as the key to reversing the nation’s socio-economic decline as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement following its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on April 8, 2025, the SDP outlined its vision for a national rebirth, driven by principles of good governance, social justice, and inclusive development.
The meeting, chaired by National Chairman Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, reaffirmed the party’s resolve to lead Nigeria toward a brighter future.

“The SDP stands as the only credible vehicle for national transformation,” said Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, National Publicity Secretary of the party. “We are fully committed to changing the status quo and providing a solution to the challenges plaguing our nation.”

Rejecting any talks of political mergers, the SDP made it clear: “No merger, no blank slate.” The party emphasized its commitment to maintaining its ideological purity and independence, while inviting Nigerians—particularly youth and professionals—who share its vision of a prosperous and just nation to join the movement.

With 2027 in its sights, the SDP is ramping up its efforts to connect with both grassroots and diaspora communities.
The party has streamlined membership registration processes at the state level and is introducing a digital revalidation system to ensure broader accessibility and engagement.

The NWC also revealed plans for enhancing internal processes to ensure seamless integration of both existing and new members. The goal is to strengthen the party’s structure, positioning it for success across all tiers of governance.

Aiyenigba called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and rally behind the SDP as “the true alternative” that will not only provide an opposition voice but also become the vehicle for Nigeria’s much-needed transformation.
