The Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the welfare of NDLEA officers, emphasizing the critical role of physical and mental fitness in the agency’s mission to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Speaking on Monday, March 10, 2025, during the inauguration of a cutting-edge fitness centre at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, Marwa highlighted the facility as a pivotal investment in the well-being and operational efficiency of the agency’s personnel. He stressed that ensuring officers remain in peak condition aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi quoted the Marwa to have stated
“The fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking extends beyond intelligence and strategic planning—it necessitates endurance, agility, and resilience,” Marwa stated. “Our duties demand sustained effort, from intensive surveillance and enforcement operations to high-risk interventions. To safeguard society, we must always be in top physical and mental shape.”

He emphasized that regular exercise is not a luxury but an essential requirement. “A physically fit officer is an efficient officer—one who can manage stress, respond swiftly in the field, and make well-informed decisions under pressure. Moreover, fitness improves overall health, mitigates the risk of lifestyle-related illnesses, and enhances mental acuity.”

Describing the facility as a significant step toward strengthening NDLEA’s human capital, Marwa revealed plans to establish similar fitness centres across zonal and state commands as resources allow. He encouraged Abuja-based officers to make full use of the facility, stating, “This is more than just a gym—it is a hub for transformation where we fortify both our bodies and our dedication to service excellence.”

Marwa concluded by urging officers to regard the new fitness centre as a symbol of NDLEA’s commitment to their holistic well-being. “Let this facility be a constant reminder of our responsibility to remain at our best—physically, mentally, and professionally. Together, we will continue to build an NDLEA that is resilient, prepared, and ever ready to fulfill its mandate.
