In a gesture of support for Muslim civil servants observing Ramadan, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has announced a reduction in official working hours throughout the fasting period.
This decision was conveyed in a statement signed by the State Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, and released through Mr. Ismaila Ibrahim, the public relations officer to the Head of Service.
According to the statement, civil servants in the state will now report to work at 9:00 AM and close at 3:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, they will close earlier at 1:00 PM, in line with the usual practice.
This adjustment takes immediate effect, shortening the previous closing time of 5:00 PM.
Alhaji Dagaceri explained that the move is designed to enable civil servants to better observe Ramadan, prepare for the daily Iftar (breaking of fast), and participate in spiritual activities associated with the holy month.
“It is hoped that civil servants in the state will use this period to pray for God’s guidance and blessings for our state,” the Head of Service stated.
The statement further urged civil servants to take advantage of the Ramadan season to pray for peace and economic prosperity in Jigawa State and Nigeria at large.
