Youth and Civil Society Coalition for Development (YCSCD) has called for urgent intervention and justice following an alleged arson incident involving two staff members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Abdullahi Sadiq Muhd and Mohammed Galadima.
The incident, which occurred on December 29, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., resulted in the complete destruction of four households at 744 Quarters, Dutse, with properties valued at ₦200 million reduced to ashes.
In a press release issued on December 30, 2024, YCSCD’s National President, Comrade Aminu Aminu, expressed outrage over the tragedy, emphasizing that this was not the first time the suspects had faced police custody.
The coalition has demanded the intervention of key authorities, including thr Governor of Jigawa State to ensure justice and compensation for victims, the State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute the suspects and the Director of State Security Services (SSS) to offer support and ensure safety for victims.
It also urged the Jigawa State Civil Defence Commandant to provide protection against intimidation, the Jigawa Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to oversee fair treatment and FIRS Controller in Jigawa State to enforce disciplinary measures against the accused staff and support victims.
Above all the coalition demanded that SEMA provide emergency relief and assist with rebuilding efforts.
YCSCD acknowledged the swift response of SEMA, which dispatched officials to assess the damages but urged for continuous support until the affected families are fully rehabilitated.
The organization reiterated the need for accountability and fair treatment, stressing that the people of Jigawa State deserve protection under the law.
