The appointment of Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has been hailed as a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s deep respect for seniority and merit in the judiciary.
This was emphasized by Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, following the Senate’s confirmation of Kekere-Ekun.

Senator Lado remarked that Justice Kekere-Ekun’s appointment not only highlights her distinguished career and pedigree but also underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to upholding the guidelines of judicial appointments.
“This appointment is a testament to the President’s adherence to seniority and merit within the judiciary,” he said.
“The new CJN’s appointment aligns with President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen the judiciary, ensuring both swift dispensation of justice and the protection of every Nigerian’s right to fair treatment.”
Senator Lado pointed to the recent appointment of 11 justices to the Supreme Court, which brought the bench to its full complement of 21 justices for the first time, as an example of the President’s dedication to revitalizing the judiciary.

Furthermore, he said President Tinubu’s signing of the bill increasing the salaries of judicial officers marks another significant step in enhancing the judiciary’s functionality and morale.

Senator Lado also lauded the 10th Senate for its swift screening and confirmation of Justice Kekere-Ekun, noting that the Senate’s support demonstrates its shared commitment with the Executive to deliver the dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people.
“The rapid confirmation process reflects the Senate’s dedication to working hand-in-hand with the Executive in implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he concluded.
