The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, officers and his men in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have been applauded for the professional handling of the on-going #EndBadGovernance protests across the country.
The commendation is coming from The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam-Madori.
Senator Malam-Madori, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, praised the IGP and his men for their restraint, civility and professionalism in responding to the protests, which he said is consistent with the best practices of modern policing.
He said, “I want to commend the Inspector General of Police and his officers for the professional manner in handling the #EndBadGovernance protests which have been taking place across the country.
“Their commitment to professionalism even in the face of threats associated with the protests is commendable and a reflection of their unwavering commitment to the safety of Nigerians and the protection of their fundamental rights.”

Senator Malam-Madori reiterated the need for the police to continue to adhere to the ethics of civil engagement as the protests continue.
He called on all officers and men of the police force to ensure that they do everything within their power to maintain law and order, even as they respect the rights of protesters.
In his words,”As the protests continue, it is important that the police remain professional in their conduct. It is crucial that the police continue to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism, while also respecting the rights of citizens to peacefully express their grievances.”

He assured that the Senate Committee on Police Affairs is fully committed to supporting the police in their efforts to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

He also called on citizens to continue to exercise restraint and engage in peaceful protests, as well as urges them to work with the police to ensure that the ongoing protests do not degenerate into violence and chaos.

Senator Malam-Madori said, “As citizens, we have a responsibility to ensure that our protests are peaceful and conducted with civility. We call on all Nigerians to work with the police to ensure that protests are conducted in a peaceful manner, as together we work towards building a more prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.”
