    From Daniel Abel, Lafia

The chairman, Nasarawa council of traditional rulers, Emir of Lafia, justice Bage Sidi, on Saturday took to the streets of Lafia to sensitize residents on need to keep clean environment for healthy living.

The move by the traditional ruler is in line with the state’s monthly sanitation exercise schedule for every last Saturday of every month.

The Emir said it has become expedient for traditional rulers in the state to be at the forefront to mobilize residents to keep a clean environment, given the danger associated with dirty environment on the health of residents.

The commissioner of environment, Yakubu Kwanta, who was on ground to monitor the monthly exercise, applauded the Emir for leading by example the campaign to ensure a clean environment which has direct bearing on the health of residents.

“The involvement of the chairman of the council of chief tells how serious governor Sule administration has taken the sanitation exercise aimed at creating a healthy environment to avoid flood and other environmental hazards associated with unkempt dirty environment.

Kwanta hinted that other traditional rulers in the state are doing same in all the local governments to ensure full support and compliance with government directive on clean and healthy environment in the state.

He therefore commended residents in Lafia and other local councils over compliance with the monthly sanitation exercise, noting that there is a significant improvement between when the excercise kick-started and now.

Kwanta called on residents, associations of ‘Okada’, ‘Keke’ and the NURTW to comply with directives on Saturday monthly sanitation excercise to ensure a healthy environment.
