Nasarawa govt condemns terrorists’ attack on Labaran Maku
From Daniel Abel, Lafia
The Nasarawa state government has condemned last Saturday’s invasion by suspected Fulani bandits when they attacked the residence of a former Minister of Information, Hon. Labaran Maku.
The Senior Special Assistant, to the governor on Public Affairs, comrade Peter Ahembawho condemned the attack in strong terms describing the incident as unfortunate
“The Governor, on behalf of the Government and people of Nasarawa State, extends his deepest sympathy to the former Minister of Information over the unfortunate incident and to the injured security personnel, who were on duty at the time of the invasion.
According to the statement, “Governor Sule hereby reassures that as a responsible government, the security of lives and property as well as the general well-being of the citizens will continued to be topmost priority of his administration.
“Government is already partnering with the top Military command, the police and para-military agencies to ensure that the bandits fleeing from other parts of the country as a result of military offensive do not have a hiding place in Nasarawa State.
“Governor Sule also warned criminal elements operating under whatever guise to leave or desist from their evil ways as the state has no hiding place for criminals.
The latest incident is said to be the third attack on the former Minister’s residence in a month.
According to sources, the hoodlums forced their way into Maku’s residence at about 7:30pm on Saturday and started shooting sporadically to gain entrance into his residential apartment.
“They came in a large number and ordered the security to open the gate but when they resisted, the bandits started shooting scaled the fence to gain access to the compound as they wounded three of the guards on duty,” the source said.
Maku however regretted that it was the third time in about a month bandits attacked his residence.
“About a month ago these terrorists invaded my family compound and kidnapped three of my siblings.
“Apart from that two of my elder brother’s children were killed in my brother’s residence by the terrorists”, Maku lamented.
