Senator Sankara withdraws from APC senate Primary election in Jigawa

The Chairman senate committee on information and senator representing Jigawa northwest senatorial district, Alhaji Danladi Abdullahi Sankara has withdrawn from the race in the ongoing senatorial primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC)

The serving senator tendered his withdrawal letter from the contest this evening of Saturday few moments before the start of the exercise.

Senator Sankara in a letter of withdrawal addressed to the national chairman of the party copy of which was obtain a copy by National Update indicated that his decision is due to “the biased and preferential action’s of the party’s leader in the State.”.

His withdrawal has reduced the number of aspirants to two which includes Alhaji Babangida Hussaini, the immediate past Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing and former senator Abdullahi Ojo who was one time senator that represented the zone in 2015 to 2019 but lost to senator Danladi Sankara.

The National Update gathered that with the development none of the three current senators will return to the green chambers come 2023 as both Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia and Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu are out of the race after they lost their bids to secure the APC governorship ticket.

Sankara has represented the people of Jigawa northwest at the green chambers under the People’s Democratic Party PDP from 2011 to 2015 and from 2019 to date under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, a former member of House of Representatives representing Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency, Alhaji Tijani Kiyawa has won the Jigawa Central Senatorial District.

The Electoral Officer from the APC national headquarters, Usman Inuwa, who announced this at the end of the primaries in Dutse said Kiyawa, who was the sole contestant polled 361 votes, with one voided vote.
